John E. McElligott, MPH, CPH
John E. McElligott serves as Executive Director of the Maricopa County Medical Society (MCMS). Founded in 1892, the Medical Society represents physicians in the fourth largest county in the United States.
From 2008 to 2019, John worked in organizations based in Washington, DC. From 2012 to 2019, John was Deputy Executive Director of the Commissioned Officers Association of the U.S. Public Health Service, advocating for men and women of the world’s only uniformed service dedicated to public health. From 2008 to 2012, John worked at the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health.
An elected member of Delta Omega, the national honorary society in public health, John earned the Certified in Public Health (CPH) credential. He serves on the Board of Directors for the National Board of Public Health Examiners.
From 2006 to 2008, John worked for the Arizona Department of Health Services in Phoenix.
A graduate of Xavier University in Cincinnati, John served in the Peace Corps in both Côte d’Ivoire and Madagascar. He was a Coverdell Peace Corps Fellow and earned a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Arizona.
John is an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve and assigned to the 492nd Civil Affairs Battalion in Buckeye. John and his wife Leslie live in Phoenix.
